6 Natural Oils Perfect for Dry Hair

For dry hair, the struggle is real! The pain, the breakage, the dandruff it has to deal with. And then there’s the problem of tangling! Many products have been formulated specially to cater for the needs of dry hair. “Cocci Beauty” has some pretty amazing ones you might want to check out.

Those products work great and efficiently. But, sometimes, we want to go natural, you know. Natural products have little to no chances of damaging your hair if you use them right. But 'natural' doesn’t mean 'perfect'. Your hair is dry because it isn’t producing sufficient oil or it’s not producing at all. These 6 oils can help fill in the gap;

1 Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is rich in vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids that help moisturize and hydrate the hair. It is generally mild and, unless you are allergic to oils, safe to use. If your hair is super dry, you may be able to use it directly without your hair getting greasy. Or better still, warm the oil in your palm first before applying to your hair. The warmth opens up the shaft and allows easy penetration of the oil.

2. Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil contains vitamins A, B, C, and E – all able moisturizers. It also contains minerals such as zinc and copper that also help moisturize the hair. It is an essential oil so you will have to dilute in a carrier oil like coconut or olive oil before use. Mix one or two drops in a carrier oil and massage into hair thoroughly. Leave on for 10 minutes and then rinse out. If you want to use as leave-in moisturizer and not have to rinse out, you will need more than two drops.

3. Olive Oil

Olive oil also contains vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids. It also contains oleic acid that makes the hair soft. From short to long hair, use two drops to ¼ of a cup (i.e. 2 drops for short hair, ¼ cup for long hair). Apply to hair and cover it for 15 minutes. Then use a wide-toothed comb to spread the oil through the hair before you rinse it out.

4. Argan Oil

This Moroccan oil is popular for its moisturizing and deeply saturating constituents – vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids. It is also an essential oil and method of use is same as Jojoba oil.

5. Castor Oil

The anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antibiotic properties of castor oil makes it an efficient dandruff remover. It is also an essential oil and needs to be diluted before use. Method of use is same as Jojoba and Argan oil.

6. Almond Oil

Almond oil is rich! And when I say 'rich', I mean protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamin E rich. It also contains emollients that moisturize and soften the hair. If you’re using sweet almond, you can apply directly to hair. If not, dilute the oil in coconut oil and apply to the hair strands.
