Being Fit Despite Being Overweight
Being overweight is definitely not something to revel in, especially for the overweight individual. You often look in the mirror and you don’t like what you see. People often say being fat and fit is impossible. But, how else do you keep yourself from thinking to death about your weight? And the interesting thing is, you can be chubby and still be healthier than the skinny guy next door who doesn’t exercise. That doesn’t mean, however, that every overweight individual who works out is healthier than everyone who has never hit the gym.
You might be overweight, but that is not to say you cannot be fit or look good. How do you achieve this?
Everyone needs exercise, so it is not that you’re being asked to do something no one else does. Studies have it that overweight and obese people who exercise are in better shape and function better at their day-to-day activities. Take note, however, that your eating habit has to change as well. Chugging down chocolates and added sugars is bad for anyone, least of all the overweight. Now, exercising does not mean you have to exert all your energy in one run. It could be just briskly walking for about 30 minutes per day. A study in 2015 showed that overweight or obese individuals who are active usually have low or, in some cases, lower weight than normal-sized but inactive individuals.
You may not necessarily have to go on restrictive dieting in order to lose weight. But, you definitely have to watch what you eat. To be sure you are not just burning energy when you exercise, your meals have to be as balanced and clean as possible. For instance, proteins and fiber-rich foods are known to keep one full for a longer time. When you feel full, you won’t feel like eating. If you don’t feel like eating, the possibility of overeating is dealt with. Your meals can contain low-fat diet, less carbs, more proteins and fiber, more vegetables and, of course, more fruits. Eat lesser portions of meals than you normally would; resist the temptation of going to get more after eating.
Have a Positive Mind
It is very easy to despise your body when you don’t like what you see when you look in the mirror. I want you to know that even if you do shed off the excess weight, you might still not feel good about yourself. So, you want to work on that mind of yours and love yourself. Then, go ahead and work to shed off the weight. Understand that you are okay as long as you’re not doing anything that’ll harm your body.
Being overweight is definitely not good for you. This post is not to argue whether or not overweight individuals are healthier than normal weight individuals. It’s to let you know that being overweight is not a death sentence. It is totally possible to be overweight and healthy. It all depends on you.
