How to Maintain Your Synthetic Hair And Keep It Soft
Synthetic hairs are made from synthetic fiber. And unlike human hair, they don’t last very long, even with the best care. But that is no reason to leave it unkempt and unattractive. With serious care, it can serve you for 5 months. That’s still something, don’t you think? So, here are tips on how to keep a synthetic hair, maintain its softness, and make it last.
1. Shampoo It
Although it doesn’t need frequent washing like human hair, synthetic hair needs washing too. Synthetic hairs get very greasy, and you need to get the grease out so it doesn’t appear too shiny. To wash it, mix shampoo in lukewarm water, put the hair inside and leave it there for at least 10 minutes, then bring it out and swish it from left to right with an upward and downward movement. Then rinse with cool water. Detangle with a wide-toothed comb or detangling spray before you wash. And be gentle with it.
2. Condition It
Condition the hair to keep it moisturized. To do this: put clean lukewarm water in a bowl big enough to accommodate the hair when stretched out. Then pour in your conditioner (make the conditioner you’re using is meant for synthetic hair). Put the hair stretched out in the bowl and leave it there for 10 minutes. Then bring it out and swish the same way as with shampoo. Don’t rinse it.
3. Let it Dry
After rinsing, press out the water in the hair until there’s no dripping. Then pat dry with a soft towel. Don’t rub so you don’t damage it. Human hair has little tolerance for heat so if at all you’re going to use hear, leave it at the lowest. But the best thing is to let it air-dry.
4. Use the Right Products
Whether shampoo, conditioner, or any other haircare product you use, make sure they are made for synthetic hair. Anything short of that will either outrightly damage the hair or make it wear out faster.
5. Don’t Overwash
Unlike human hair and our own natural hair, synthetic hair doesn’t need much washing. Don’t worry about the oils, they don’t get to your hair. Yes, you should wash. Wash once a week if you wear it often and once a month if you don’t.
6. Don’t Change Products
Stick to your conditioner and shampoo; they are alone to keep synthetic hair clean and soft, really. Changing products will weaken it and it’ll wear our faster than it normally would.
7. Avoid Heat Tools
Synthetic hair has little to no tolerance for heat, especially when it is extreme. So avoid hot irons, blow-dryers, hot water, and anything with heat. They will damage it.
