It is absolutely normal for you to sweat. One way or another, we all sweat. Some more than the others but, sweats nonetheless. And this is perfectly okay, healthy in fact. If you don’t sweat, there’s probably a medical problem because that would mean your body is not regulating its temperature. On their own, sweats are odorless and incapable of emitting the unpleasant smell we sometimes perceive from others. But, when the sweats are influenced by other factors, then comes the unpleasant smell!

The rapid replication of bacteria and the bacteria breaking down the protein in sweats into acids are the sole causes of body odor. So, to prevent that, you have to deal with the bacteria. Here are some tips on how you can do that. At the end of the day, it’s all about maintaining proper hygiene.

1. Take Warm Bath at Least Once a Day

Warm water kills of bacteria. Taking warm bath everyday will reduce the number of bacteria in your body and consequentially reduce the rate at which they replicate and break down your sweats.

2. Keep Armpits Clean and Hairless

The hairs in your armpits slow down the rate at which your sweats evaporate. Rather than dry up, the sweats get clogged in the hairs. This gives the bacterial chance to break them down into what we hate to perceive. And, we do not want that, do we? So, shave your armpits as often as it takes. Also, clean them regularly using antibacterial soap.

3. Watch What You Eat

Research has it that people who eat a lot of spicy foods like curry, garlic, onions etc. are more prone to having body odor. They contain aroma that escape through the pores with your sweats. Caffeinated beverages and alcohol cause body odor too. You don’t have to cut them out completely, just moderate them.

4. Use Antiperspirants and Deodorants

Antiperspirants cause you to sweat less and deodorants make the skin acidic and inhabitable to the bacteria. Deodorants also help cover the smell of the bacteria. For best results, use them after bath in the morning and before you sleep at night.

5. Take Care of Your Feet

The feet are easy target to these bacteria mostly because we are always putting on socks or shoes. And, sometimes we have to wear them all day. To prevent this from resulting into body odor, make sure you wash your feet at least once a day with warm water, wear clean socks made with fibers and wool, don’t put on shoes for too long, and spread the shoes when you pull them. Try not to wear the same pair of shoes every day.

6. Don’t Put on Dirty Clothes

Dirty clothes are comfortable breeding space for bacteria. So, wash your clothes properly and regularly.

7. Wear Breathable Fabrics

Put on clothes that allow sweats to evaporate quickly rather than storing them. Think silk, cotton, or wool. If you’re not sweating too much, there would be nothing for the bacteria to break down.
