SKINCARE TIPS FOR MATURE SKIN
Proper skin care is important throughout your life, but you should step it up when you start to mature. As you get older, not everything stays the same. However, with skincare we tend to get into a routine and stick with it. You might need to review it from time to time and sometimes take a different approach in order to soothe your skin.
Mature skin should be treated with a mild, non-irritating cleanser that will not strip the skin off its natural oils or irritate dry and sensitive skin.
Although it may be impossible to turn back time, following these tips can help slow down the clock.
WEAR SUNSCREEN EVERYDAY
I know it is tedious to constantly hear about the importance of sunscreen, but this is a very important beauty rule. Nothing damages your skin more than exposure to the sun. It is the number one cause of brown spots, wrinkles and skin cancer. Always choose a sunscreen of at least 30 SPF and also choose one that blocks UVA and UVB rays. Sunscreen should be reapplied throughout the day.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT CLEANSERS AND MOISTURIZERS
It is very important to choose cleansers, moisturizers and a skin care routine formulated for your skin type. You may have noticed that the older you get, the drier your skin becomes. As you age, your skin suffers a slowdown in oil production and cell turnover, especially after menoupause, which is why moisturizing is very important.
EXFOLIATION IS KEY
Exfoliation is necessary as you age. The outer layer of the skin comprises of dead skin and it thickens as you age, so you need to exfoliate to see more of the fresher skin. You should exfoliate both your body and face weekly, more often if your skin gets dry, itchy and flaky. For the face, it is recommended you use a good face scrub. Use a dry brush to exfoliate before you shower as moisturizer goes on much more smoothly when the skin is exfoliated.
EMBRACE YOUR AGE
Don’t let the quest for youth make you forget all the best parts of maturity. Make every laugh your heartiest, every smile from ear, because those laugh lines represent the best parts of your life, and you should be reminded of all the happy memories when you look at them.
TREAT WRINKLES AND HYPERPIGMENTATION CAREFULLY
It is advised to use retinol, a derivate of Vitamin A that when applied topically, promotes skin renewal, brightens skin tone, clears up hyperpigmentation and aids in production of collagen. Another key ingredient for brightening up a dull complexion and erasing sun spots is Vitamin C, which helps treat and fight against free radical damage that causes oxidative stress and skin aging. It also helps to fight hyperpigmentation.
