STEPS TO A SIMPLE DIY FACIAL AT HOME
A facial is one method of skin care treatment for the face. It involves different steps like steaming, exfoliation, extraction, facial masks, peels and treatment creams and lotion. A facial will cleanse, exfoliate and nourish your skin while promoting clear and even complexion. Facials come in different types such as:
• European Facial
• LED Light therapy facials
• HydraFacial
• Mini facials
Depending on our schedules and budget, facials at beauty salons might be out of reach. You can however carry out your own facial at home; it is just a matter of knowing what to do. Since we might all be stuck home in the nearest future, cocci beauty brings to you how to carry out a DIY facial at home:
DOUBLE CLEANSE
The first step is double cleanse in order to prep your skin and start on a clean palette. You can cleanse first with an oil-based cleanser to breakdown makeup, and remove dead skin cells before using your gel, cream or foam cleanser. Massage properly with focus on the oily nooks and crannies. Alternatively, you can also cleanse with micellar water first if you do not have an oil cleanser before going over it with your regular cleanser.
EXFOLIATE
After cleansing, the next step is to exfoliate. Exfoliating is the process of removing dead skin cells from the skin either with physical or chemical exfoliants. Physical exfoliants comes in scrubs and powders. Chemical exfoliants are Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) and Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHA).
MASK
After exfoliating, then comes the facemask. Your skin type should determine your facemask. If you have dry skin, go for facemasks that are targeted at hydrating your face and contain hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid and vitamin B5. If you have oily and breakout prone skin, go for a mask that contains salicylic acid, vitamin c etc.
STEAM
Steaming is targeted at softening the face and opening the pores. Simply positioning your face over a bowl of hot water (you can add orange slices if you are feeling fancy) with a towel over your head while you still have your mask on.
MOISTURIZE AND MASSAGE
After removing your face, mask. You can apply your serums, acne treatment (if you have any) and moisturize. The idea is to hydrate your skin as much as possible at this point. You can go the extra mile to massage your face gently afterwards to boost blood circulation.
