Tips On How To Deal With Stretch Marks

As the name implies, stretch marks are marks that appear on your skin as it stretches beyond its limits. They appear when the protein that provides your skin with its elasticity, collagen, is not sufficiently produced. The production of collagen can be affected negatively when the skin fibers are weakened by occurrences such as pregnancy.

Just like scars on the body, stretch marks don’t completely disappear. They can only be covered or made to fade either through medical/cosmetic intervention or DIY (Do It Yourself) therapies. So, if you have stretch marks and you’re looking for them to vanish, I’m sorry but, that is not going to happen. But, there are things you can do to make them less visible or even almost invisible.

We recommend any of these awesome products to help with dealing with Stretch Marks.

Medical/Cosmetic Intervention

One way you can cause your stretch marks to fade quickly is by seeing a dermatologist. Dermatologists have different methods of treating stretch marks. They include:

Use of Tretinoin Cream containing Retin-A

This cream helps restore collagen to your skin. However, they work more effectively when the marks are still new before they turn white. Tretinoin creams are known to cause skin irritation, and they are not advisable for pregnant women.

Use of Pulse Dye Laser Therapy

This is a trigger for the growth of collagen and elastin in the skin. As with majority of therapies, this therapy is more effective with newly-appeared marks. If you’re dark-skinned, you may experience some skin discoloration.

Microdermabrasion

This works effectively in both new and old marks. It involves polishing the skin with tiny crystals, revealing new skin under the stretch marks.

Fractional Photothermolysis

This therapy is both similar and, at the same time, different from pulsed dye laser therapy. It is similar in that it also uses a laser, and the difference is that it targets smaller areas of your skin. One advantage it has over pulsed dye laser therapy is that it causes less damage to the skin.

Excimer Laser

This stimulates melanin production, making the color of the stretch marks blend with the color of the skin surrounding the area they appear.

Cosmetic Surgery

Cosmetic surgeries can be carried out on the affected areas of the skin to remove the marks. The downside is that they usually leave scars. And, they are an expensive and painful procedure.

Stretch Mark Creams

Mederma Stretch Marks Therapy, has been known to help cover stretch marks when applied every day. You can check it out at our store.

DIY Therapies

These are things you can do yourself to treat stretch marks, without the intervention of a dermatologist.

Since stretch marks are caused as a result of rapid changes in the body, you can control those rapid changes. How? By watching your weight through screening what you eat and exercising regularly. If they are already there, shedding off some weight might help.

Take some Vitamin A. They make the skin appear younger and smoother.

Get yourself aloe vera plant, extract the gel, and apply it on the affected parts every day after bath.

A study was carried out on coconut oil to reveal its healing properties. Applying some on your skin might help in making the stretch marks fade faster.
